QR CODE PRINT SIZE CALCULATION

A popular and common application of QR Codes in marketing plans is the use of the code in outdoor advertisements such as billboards. In addition, QR Code advertisements are widely used in public transportation vehicles such as trains and taxis, in cars and trucks, or on walls and building columns. What all these advertising areas have in common is that QR Code customers can scan the code from relatively long distances with the QR Code reader on their smartphone, and therefore it should be displayed large enough. To ensure the success of your QR Code campaign, you need to pay special attention to this point.

We can give an example of this: a poster hung at a bus stop. The poster is located on the wall of the shaft where your customers can see it while waiting for their bus. During scanning, the distance between the smartphone and the QR Code must be a maximum of 7 meters.

The rule specifying the minimum space required for a QR Code in your promotions is as follows;

Side Length of QR Code (meters) = Scanning Distance (meters) / 10

In the example above, it means that the QR Code on the poster at the bus stop must be printed at least 70cm x 70cm. It's just a measure of the space the code takes up. You must leave 4 modules of free space above the specified size, that is, around your QR Code. 1 module is the smallest single pixel element in the QR Code.

Scanning Distance; 7 meters / 10 = Side Length 70 cm (0.7 meters)

If you follow this basic rule, your users can easily scan your QR Codes. In this way, you can maximize the effects of your QR code campaign in the areas mentioned above! This rule is a non-binding method for determining size, but this may vary due to different smartphones and cameras on the market. Be sure to test your QR Code before presenting it.
